Fremont National Forest
Route: Crane Mountain Lookout Road and Trail
From US 395 turn east on State Highway 140 about 5 miles north of Lakeview. Continue east past Warner Canyon Ski Area and Warner Mountain Summit. In about 7 miles, turn south on Forest Road 3915. Continue on FR 3915 past Rogger Meadow TH at 5.4 miles. At 12.0 miles turn right on FS 4011. Pass the Willow Creek Campground on the right at 12.4 miles. At 14.3 miles you will come to a Y junction. If you take the left road you will soon find what appears to be a parking area. If you instead take the right road and follow it another 1.2 miles (15.5 miles total) you will arrive at an informal trailhead where there is room for parking.
The road narrows and steepens here and continues on to the Crane Mountain Lookout site. It may be possible to drive to the lookout site, but is suitable only for high-clearance and stable 4WD vehicles. As you climb this road you will pass a spur road to the right that heads to Willow Point, and you will subsequently pass a trailhead on the right that heads west and north of Crane Mountain. Stay on the road and continue climbing. Shortly before reaching the lookout site you will find the Crane Mountain Trailhead on your left. Hike this trail south and after about a mile leave the trail to the right (west) to find the summit. A GPS with the summit marked as a waypoint can help you find the summit.
